Bud:
Star Tickseed or Coreopsis pubescens - This Missouri Native starts blooming at the beginning of summer with blooms that last through September. It's flexible with the sun, but would be perfectly fine in a partly shaded area. Pollinators love this plant, so cut it back in the summer to encourage more blooms. Poor or dry soil isn't a worry for this hardy plant.
Bloom
Leadwort or Amorpha canescens - This early summer bloomer loves full sun and is drought-tolerant, making it perfect for those mid-summer dry spells. This MO Native loves full sun but can handle part shade, don't expect as many of those bright purple flower spikes. They root deep, sometimes even down 15 feet into the Earth.
